Home > Review of the SLS Hotel on the Las Vegas Strip
One of the newest and hottest hotel destinations in Las Vegas is the SLS Hotel. A mere hop, skip, and jump away from the best clubs and entertainment spots on the strip, the SLS is quickly becoming a popular stop for young vacationers to cash in on hot deals and even hotter pool-side action.
SLS was formerly known as the Sahara Hotel and Casino, which was operational from 1952 to 2011. Featuring more than 1,700 guest rooms and suites, and boasting a sprawling casino that covered more than 85,000 square feet, the Sahara hotel encompassed nearly 60 acres of land.
The Sahara officially closed in 2012, and groundbreaking for the SLS new project began on February 14, 2013. SLS opened officially in August 2014, featuring 1,600 designer guest rooms, an exciting casino, four exclusive nightclubs, superior restaurants, and the luxury shopping store Fred Segal. By the way, SLS stands for "Style, Luxury, and Service".
SLS is one of our most underrated hotels in Las Vegas.
SLS continues to evolve: in 2015, Starwood Hotels and Resorts announced it would further develop SLS’s 282-room LUX Tower. The new renovation efforts would offer guests of the Lux Tower their own dedicated entrance, lobby, meeting space, pool, and facilities. The new Tower would be renamed W Las Vegas.
The hotel sits on the site of the SLS station, the northernmost stop for the Las Vegas monorail, which makes it an ideal stay for its convenient proximity to the strip and other hotels near by, including the Stratosphere and Circus Circus Hotel and Casino.
